An oak framed home on Devon's South Coast was awarded Best Green Home at the Homebuilding & Renovating Awards in December 2024.
Carpenter Oak built and installed the oak frame, and worked with architects Harrison Sutton on the design. The clients sought out the use of sustainable materials throughout the build. They commission Carpenter Oak for the oak frame, which comes from sustainable and well-managed woodlands in France, and for other timbers in the home (for example the cladding, flooring, doors and staircase), used timber from local woodland, and this was processed at a local sawmill.
The home also use an air source heat pump and uses a natural insulation product for it's walls. The oak frame verandas on front and the rear will enable the owners to grow a vine or creeping plant which will provide shade to the building in the summer months, and allow in sunshine during the colder months.
