Roof Boarding
Roof Boarding for Timber Frames
Our roof boarding service is specifically designed to complement our timber framing solutions, providing essential weatherproof protection that enhances the durability and efficiency of your build. By installing high-quality roof boarding, we create an immediate protective cover, allowing the drying process to begin as soon as the oak frame is erected. This enables the next phase of construction to proceed without delays, regardless of weather conditions.
Our precision-cut roof boarding is installed tightly against the timber frame, leaving only a minimal gap to ensure a seamless, integrated appearance. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also maintains the structural integrity of the green oak frame, ensuring long-term stability and weather resistance.
Our expert team ensures a high-quality installation, tailored to your project’s specifications, using premium sustainably sourced timber. Whether you are constructing a traditional oak-framed building or a modern timber structure, our roof boarding solutions provide the ideal foundation for a durable and efficient build.

Materials
We specify high-quality FSC-certified 145mm x 22mm sawn boarding, made from kiln-dried, untreated, regularised timbers. These timbers feature a fine sawn face, providing a premium architectural finish that complements the surface texture of the oak frame.
Available Lengths:
- 2.4m
- 3.6m
- 4.8m
For coverage, 6.9 linear meters of timber is required per square meter of area. When installing, please allow for either visible or hidden end joins, depending on your preference.
We offer a choice of whitewood or redwood, both carefully sawn on one face using a fine-toothed bandsaw to achieve a refined, high-quality finish. This ensures an optimal balance between aesthetic appeal and cost-efficiency, making it an ideal choice for both traditional and contemporary builds.

Painting and Shrinkage
We pre-paint one side and two edges of the boards in our dust-free workshop, applying a base coat to prime the surface and block the pores, followed by a top coat in the chosen color. This pre-painting process minimizes redecoration after the green oak rafters have finished shrinking. Our standard color is White (RAL 9010), with other colors available upon request for an additional charge. Some touch-up painting may be required due to the construction process, and care must be taken by the sandblaster to avoid damaging the painted boards.

Fire Protection
Post-cutting, the timber must undergo fire treatment, unlike the oak frame, to comply with building regulations. We apply Dricon Euroclass B KD treatment to the sawn boards to prevent flame spread, followed by kiln-drying to minimize moisture and reduce shrinkage. The main timber frame structure doesn’t require fireproofing – it is sufficiently fireproof on its own.\
