In-House Fabrication
Built by Hand and Made to Last
Every Carpenter Oak frame begins in our workshops, where traditional craft and careful attention to detail meet modern precision. For almost 40 years, we’ve been shaping timber into homes that feel warm, grounded, and full of character. Our fabrication process is where your vision becomes something real - carved, cut, shaped, and refined by skilled hands.
Whether your project is a new home, an extension, a vaulted living space or a distinctive timber feature, every component of your frame is created with care in our workshops in Devon and Scotland. We treat each project as a one-off, crafting and assembling it in-house so that every joint, curve and connection is exactly as it should be before it ever reaches your site.

Handcrafted in the Workshops
Much of what we make is shaped using traditional carpentry techniques. These methods are at the heart of what makes a Carpenter Oak frame unique. You’ll see the results in the clean lines of a mortice and tenon joint, the subtle marks left by hand tools, and the feeling of solidity that comes from something made with skill rather than mass production.
Green oak frames are particularly special. They’re crafted using time-honoured methods that allow the timber to move, season and settle naturally in place. This gives your home authenticity and a character that deepens over time.
A Range of Finishes to Suit Your Vision
Timber is a wonderfully expressive material. We offer a variety of finishes so you can match the look of your frame to the style of your home - whether that’s modern and minimal or rustic and textured.
You can choose from smooth planed timbers, fine band-sawn textures, sandblasted surfaces, or specialist finishes such as charred or limewashed timber. We also clean and protect the wood using methods like oxalic acid treatments, UV coatings and fire-resistant finishes, depending on where the frame will sit and how you want it to age over time.

See Your Frame Before It’s Installed
One of the most exciting parts of working with Carpenter Oak is seeing your frame built in the workshop long before installation day. Every frame is test-assembled, checked and refined so that everything fits perfectly once it arrives on site. You’re welcome to visit, meet the team, and watch your home take shape - it’s an experience many clients treasure.
This in-house approach means your build is more predictable, with fewer surprises on site and smoother progress for everyone involved.

Delivered to Site with Care and Precision
Once your frame is finished, it’s disassembled, labelled, wrapped and prepared for delivery. Our installation teams then reassemble it on site with the same attention to detail used in the workshop. Because every joint has already been tested, the erection process is efficient and reliable, allowing you to see the shape of your home lift into place within days.

Why In-House Fabrication Matters
Keeping fabrication entirely in-house allows us to maintain accuracy and consistency at a level that external suppliers simply can’t match. From the first cut to the final quality check, every component is crafted and verified under one roof. This approach reduces risk dramatically, particularly on projects where tolerances, sequencing or interfaces with glazing and steelwork are critical.
All workshop activity is closely aligned with our design and engineering teams, allowing rapid communication and immediate problem-solving if a detail needs adjusting. This avoids delays and prevents costly rework further down the line. With no outsourced production, the supply chain is shorter, more resilient and easier to control - giving contractors and consultants complete confidence in the process.
