The best little country in the world... Ireland
How long have you been a carpenter?
Almost 5 years
How did you end up working for Carpenter Oak?
My girlfriend wanted to move to Devon so of course I did to. I needed a job and thought “oh timber framing looks cool, I’ll try that”. So I emailed Carpenter Oak but didn't a reply. So I pulled a sicky from work and headed to Cornworthy (where the Devon yard was then based) to chance my luck. I walked into the office with a CV in hand (and a Carhartt hoody on to look legit!) and asked for a job. Sarah took a liking to me and later that evening I had a phone call from Stuart saying that Sarah told him he had to give me a job. The rest is history.
What is the best thing about working for Carpenter Oak?
The best thing is the people. We’re not your average carpenters. You won’t find us knocking off from site early, leaving a mess for the next tradie to sort out or getting a McDonald's for lunch. No, we’re more the stop what we’re doing to help an old lady across the road, start early finish late, do it right the first time, sweep up the slab at the end of the job and Waitrose banquet lunch type of guys and gals.
And the variety of jobs that we get is amazing. I've been to France working on a WW2 memorial, to the Middle East on a huge glulam oak lodge and all over the UK working on some amazing homes and buildings in beautiful places.
