The Making Of The Frame
The making of the frame is when all the careful planning pays off… It takes a good deal of time to get to this point and it’s a great milestone in your project when the carpenters can get to work on the timbers, chalking up face marks, marking out the joints and making the first cuts.
Frame carpentry is at the heart of what we do and we do it with passion and dedication. Much of our work is rooted in traditional pegged mortice and tenon jointing techniques (referred to as European scribe-carpentry). Our carpenters are well versed in complex roofing geometry and are able to undertake highly complex structures with ease including non-parallel, curved and faceted frames. Our work also commonly strays into highly engineered structures which involve the fitting of steelwork and forms of carpentry unrecognisable to the medieval carpenter and which have developed hand in hand with modern engineering.
