We have been turning our clients’ timber frame visions into reality since 1987. Since then we have completed a range of award winning projects, from the largest publicly accessible oak framed buildings in the UK, to a timber frame swimming pool in Russia. We’ve created numerous bespoke oak framed houses, oak conservatories and timber frame extensions along the way. You may have seen us on Channel 4’s Grand Designs or Building the Dream.
Our dedicated and professional team of project managers, frame designers, and carpenters are as passionate about your timber frame creation as you are. Come and visit our Framing Yard in the beautiful South Devon countryside where you can see timber framing in action, meet the team and talk to an architect in our timber frame show barn. Alternatively, visit our state of the art contemporary oak frame show house. You don’t need to have a plot to talk to us – we are here to help and guide you at every stage from dream to reality.
As well as designing and raising frames, we also offer a complete build or ‘turnkey’ service, allowing you to leave every stage of the process to us, from original concept through to a finished home.
Thank you for building us such a lovely frame. It was a pleasure to meet the team, to see the frame take shape and to enjoy it standing in proud solitude on its hillside for a few days before the walls went up.
The quality of the workmanship has been admired by many, but I feel it only fair to refer to how ably your work force communicated their genuine love and care, in turning green oak into what is now this structure of beauty and of strength. It really was a delight to experience the two days when Don and his team were erecting the the frame for the first time. Whether it is the accuracy of the joins or the careful attention to the details; it seemed no surprise to them to find it all slot together without a hitch.
Now, and on reflection I can recognise how valuable it was for you to spend those initial hours fostering our limited imagination for a building design. Miriam and I have both felt free to take part, and to be carefully guided towards what is now emerging as a really proud and most exciting living space for us.
Everything went very well despite the weather, the frame looks brilliant. Tom and Ben are great guys and they have done a really good job. Thanks to you and all your team for your help with the architects and SIPS people, brilliant job.
Working with Carpenter Oak has been an utmost pleasure and their professionalism matches the quality of the product they provide. This extends all the way through the company from Adam’s ‘can do’ attitude, the quality of the technical drawings and the smoothness of the timing of production to fit around our build schedule. Finally, I must say a big thank you to Jean, the lead carpenter and his team of Ben, Chris and Muna. They showed great hospitality in allowing me to visit the framing yard numerous times while they created the oak frame. They are true craftsman and their work will be on display for generations to come. Every time I sit down in our barn room and gaze upon the oak framing, I appreciate how extremely fortunate I am to be surrounded by such beauty. Thank you Carpenter Oak!
Devon (UK) based award winning specialists in the design, construction and raising of oak timber framed buildings. We have a dedicated team of Project Managers, Frame designers and Carpenters who work closely with clients and architects to deliver a wide variety of bespoke oak frame projects across the UK, Europe and beyond.
We celebrate the beauty and joy of timber frames in many different styles and raise over 60 frames a year for inclusion within schemes ranging from oak sunroom extensions to extensive high-end architectural oak houses.
We love wood, we love design and we love a challenge.
As in most walks of life, if it looks too good to be true then it probably is.
We are different and instead pursue excellence – we look to be the best at what we do whilst maintaining affordability, accurate and realistic pricing – we seek the trust and loyalty of our clients as this is the basis of positive working relationships which last beyond the raising of the frame.
Carpenter Oak Ltd are investing into the natural resources of the UK. As well as supporting sustainable European forests, we work closely with the Woodland Trust charity in the UK, who campaign for, support, replenish and establish forests across the UK.
All of our Oak is from sustainably managed woodlands located around a single sawmill in Normandy, France (PEFC certifified). When this mill is unable to fulfil our order we divert to an alternative mill in Germany. The mills have access to a plentiful supply of exceptionally well managed and very high quality timber.
Why not use UK sourced oak, I hear you ask? Sadly, the lack of investment and good timber management for hardwoods in this country over many years means our domestic supplies are generally of a lower quality, inconsistent supply and can be more expensive. Although the situation will gradually change, it means that currently continental Oak is the best option for our framing. Carpenter Oak Ltd are investing in the future of UK woodlands.
For every tree used in a project we will donate 10 Oak saplings to an organised planting scheme in the UK
Douglas Fir and Larch all comes from sustainably managed UK forests.
