The 2019 Build It Awards shortlist has been announced and two Carpenter Oak frames are in the running for Best Oak Frame.

Gitcombe Retreat, entered by Roderick James Architects, is a luxury rental property a few minutes from our Devon yard.  Built on a steep slope and replacing dilapidated farm buildings, the two-storey project has four bedrooms and bathrooms and its position makes the most of the surrounding views across the valley, that can be enjoyed from around the wood burner or on the oak framed balcony that wraps two sides.

The second property to be in the running is Shepherd’s House in Oxfordshire.  Ian and Sue’s home is a large and traditional full two-storey, half-hipped oak frame with a central spine wall to support the first floor.  The oak frame allows for a large expanse of open plan layout on the ground floor, with a generous kitchen and living room opening out onto the front gardens through full-height glazing.

Carpenter Oak has had success at the annual awards before, winning Best Oak Frame on three previous occasions for West Yard Farm, in 2014, Spillane in 2015 and Hart House in 2016

The 2019 winners will be announced on 29 November, so keep your fingers crossed and watch this space!
