Interview with Liam

What is your favourite thing about working at Carpenter Oak?
The broad spectrum of styles, size and the quality of the frames we create is a great thing to be a part of. Every project is unique which is great. There is such a wealth of knowledge and experience at the company, it’s a great place to build on my framing knowledge and work towards gaining my chartership in Architectural Technology. On a personal level, the company is very people focused, creating a very enjoyable, supportive and fun place to work. There is also the bike ride to work, a great way to start the working day.

When not in the yard what do you enjoy doing?
Spending time with friends and family, cooking tasty food, getting on my bike to nice places, listening to and finding new music and going to the pub.

What is the best project you’ve worked on so far?
The boathouse frame at Clay Park. One of the best looking frames. We also had a lot of input on the detailing to achieve the final look.

Do you have a favourite quote?
‘Never underestimate the power of human stupidity’ – Robert A. Heinlein

Biography
I grew up in the West Midlands, in the beautiful county of Shropshire. I then went and studied and lived in Bristol for a very enjoyable 9 years. I graduated just as the recession hit, which made getting an architectural job a bit of a challenge. I was lucky enough to find an internship that got me involved in timber framing and I’ve been working in the industry ever since. I worked for a timber framing company north of Bristol for a few years, was self-employed for a brief period and made the move out of the workshop into frame design with Carpenter Oak.
