Carpenter Oak have been the industry leaders in the design and handcrafting of timber frame buildings for over 30 years. With workshops and offices in Devon and Scotland, we have around 50 employees, with plans to expand the team over the next 12 months.

As a business, we are on a journey to Employee Ownership, which gives all of us a voice, and a stake, in our current and future success. This is a very exciting time of growth for Carpenter Oak and we have some fantastic opportunities for talented people to join the team.

The role of Trainee – or more experienced – Frame Designer offers a rare and unique opportunity to work with and learn from our expert frame designers.

The primary focus of the role will be to support the technical design team, working with frame designers, engineers, end-users and project managers on the design of timber structures.

With their guidance and support, you will progress to become a competent frame designer in your own right, able to take full responsibility for the design of complex timber frames. This, of course, will be very dependent on the experience and aptitude of the successful applicant.

Training will be provided in the specialised use of AutoCAD Architecture and the appropriate selection of traditional and contemporary carpentry joints for a variety of applications.
