Joined Carpenter Oak: 2017

Interview with Tim

  • What is the most embarrassing job you have ever had?

  • Probably as a 14 year old plucking turkeys at Chrsitmas. Maybe not embarrassing, but a horrible job.
  • When not here what do you enjoy doing?

  • I play the drums and love music, and going camping with the family.
  • what sort of music do you enjoy listening to?

  • I listen to a wide variety of music so will listen to pretty much anything.
  • Best thing about working at Carpenter Oak?

  • It's got to be the people- and working for a company that cares about its employees. Also I love the opportunity to travel around the country when we go to put frames up- we often go to places I would never otherwise visit.

I grew up in Glastonbury in the west country but had been working in London for a long time when we decided to move back west before we started a family. I'd done all sorts of things from studying performing arts, to working in Harrods, to working in a photographic studio, a historical picture library and working as a chef with a market stall in Greenwich market. I left London in 2001 and was working as a self employed carpenter- but I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I went to Nik (Sheppard)'s house to quote for a deck and got talking to him. Rather than build the deck I applied for a job as a trainee here. I joined in 2003 and left about four years later to go self- employed building garden offices and complete structures. I ended up going back into framing and while I enjoyed the challenge of being self-employed it wasn't the job I wanted it to be. Ultimately I decided that I enjoyed being part of the team here... Luckily they had an opening so I came back in 2015.
