After an enjoyable evening at the Build It Awards 2016 we are proud to announce, for the third consecutive year, we are winners of the Best Oak Frame. The nominated project ‘Hart House’ is of contemporary oak glulam construction married with a mixture of traditional jointing and machine dove-tailed connections.

Oak glulam construction gives a contemporary, sharp and somewhat inert engineered finish. The technical advantages include wider, unsupported spans with almost limitless shapes and sizes of timber offering extensive design possibilities. Glulam is not specific to Oak and is available in a variety of timber; Greywings is a beautiful example of a chestnut glulam extension.

The client and owner of ‘Hart House, Jim Duffy of Add Architects, plans to promote his design as a concept and Carpenter Oak is currently working with him on a second similar project.

We are pleased to congratulate our clients Antony Higham and Darren Findlow for winning the award for Best Self Build Project with their ‘Characterful Woodland Self Build’ home. Antony and Darren were inspired by the home of Carpenter Oaks finance director Lee Manning, Orchard House.

Taking responsibility for the project management, Antony and Darren were supported by Carpenter Oaks network of experienced and dependable contractors.

Described as a ‘light filled-haven’ their home consists of light open spaces whilst reflecting the warmth typical of a traditional oak framed cottage. The design of the house incorporates the woodland surroundings with the use of large areas of fixed glazing.

Both these projects adopted the wrap around SIP’s system installed by Glosford SIPs who were nominated for Best SIP’s home with ‘Hart House’.
